Your students can become eco poets and help to share views about nature and the environment with The Big Green Poetry Machine!
It’s a fantastic opportunity for your students to share their thoughts on the world around them & for you to introduce this subject with ready-made resources.
The online resources offer 4 x idea generation activities, a word bank and lesson plan. The student info guide, video, and graphic organizer also make this a great independent learning activity. There's a PowerPoint presentation or use the Google Slide version instead!
Poems can be in any style and link to the environment in many ways, from litter, pollution and wildlife, to sustainability, conservation or exploring nature & local landscapes.
Get your whole school engaged with caring for the environment and creating a better world for their future by writing a poem and giving their young voices a chance to be heard.
Rules
To make sure your entries are valid, please follow the rules listed below:
Only one entry per student, there is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers please submit your entries altogether where possible!
Ask your students to write their poems (or an adult can scribe/type it), ensuring their name, age and school name are included.
Poems can be on the entry form or sheet of paper or typed (on a computer or in the Online Writing Portal).
Students' poems must be their own work!
Open to 5-18 year-olds.
Poems must be on the theme or inspired by nature / the environment.
Poems can be written in any poetic style/form.
US entrants only.
Copyright remains with the author.

For Schools
Young Writers' Award of Excellence will be awarded to the school who submits the best set of entries.

Every school receives a free copy of the book their students are featured in!
(Remember, you receive 1 free copy for every 30 entries you submit! E.g. 1-30 entries you receive 1 copy, 31-60 entries you receive 2 copies, etc.)

Our 3 favorite poets will each win an eco-inspired goody bag! (Image for illustration purposes only, contents may vary.)
PLUS
Every entrant receives a bookmark for taking part. Students chosen for publication also receive a certificate.

Use the Online Writing Portal if you want your students to type their work during a lesson or for homework.
Alternatively, you can submit your entries via Google Docs - please make sure that we have permission to access and download the files.
